Russell is a small town of around 1,400 people in the Prairie Mountain region of Manitoba. Russell is a small agricultural community near the Saskatchewan border.

Russell is the home of Manitoba's Beef and Barley Festival, which is held annually in October.
Since 1972 the Russell Beef & Barley Festival has been a major event in the community of Russell Manitoba.
Beef & Barley was chosen as the theme for this community celebration to honour the area’s high quality of farm production,with special emphasis on the beef breeding industry & barley growing. Events include the King & Queen Pageant, volleyball tournament, car rally and craft fair.

Kerri Buchberger-Kendziora (born June 23, 1970 in Russell Manitoba) is a retired volleyball player from Canada, who competed for her native country at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. There the resident of Winnipeg ended up in tenth place with the Women's National Team after having won the bronze medal a year earlier at the Pan American Games. Her brother is Kelly Buchberger, professional ice hockey coach and former player.
